CHE groups we work with at the moment

Since 2013, we have been working in South Africa to interest people, communities and especially churches to engage in a more integral way of evangelism, discipleship and development.  This is also called Wholistic Transformational Community Development (WTCD) or Integral Mission.  We are working with the Community Health Evangelism program (CHE).

Makhado CHE group

This group started in 2016. Makhado is located in southern Vhembe district, one of the five districts of Limpopo province (see map above).
Five churches work together in this CHE group; they develop CHE programs in their churches and the communities around them. The five pastors of these churches form the steering CHE committee. The leader of this group, Pastor Willie Mphilo, is now working with a new group himself to mentor and train people to become CHE trainers.

Mulweli CHE group

Mulweli is located in the south-eastern part of Vhembe district. In April 2022, we did a CHE trainer training (TOT1) with 18 leaders from the Mulweli community. 
Out of this large group, six are now left who are very motivated to go forward with the CHE program. Because, as often happens after training, people always drop out. In this group, five of the trainees were encouraged by the training and started looking for jobs again and found them. This is a great result of the training, but obviously makes them unavailable as trainers for the CHE program for the time being.
Special is that the Chief , his wife and his daughter also participate in this CHE group. 
However political dynamics in this community have caused that implementation of the CHE program has not started yet.

Balethavha CHE group

Balethavha is an area in northern Vhembe district, which is located in the northern Limpopo Province. In March 2018, a group of 6 trainers from the Balethavha CHE group completed the first week of CHE trainers training (TOT1). We have since made several follow-up visits to this group. Before corona time, we had started training another group of CHE trainers. In the March 2022 trip, we completed that training with two CHE trainers. It was difficult for this group to proceed well, because the coordinating committee was not able to meet regularly. Therefore, during the March-April 2023 trip, the committee decided to dissolve itself and asked Pastor Kwinda (from one of the four churches involved) to continue with the CHE program with his church.

Lamvi CHE group

Ha-Makuya is a remote area in northeastern Vhembe district in the far north of South Africa. In March 2017, a group of 8 leaders from Ha-Makuya and surrounding villages did their first CHE trainer training (TOT1). Since that training, we have made several visits lasting several days. The trainers are working with CHE in the village of Lamvi. The focus here is on agriculture and a healthy lifestyle.
